picture is not too large, unfortunately, only those found on the web, and is reproduced in the album "Borderlands of photography Henry Poddębski" appears on both sides spread and did not come to my scanner. It is a pity, because the photography excellent, and absolutely phenomenal hit. And it came to it first when a year ago I opened around those books bookstore wearing Bank in Warsaw. Henry Poddębski today is not especially well-known author nor valued, which is a pity because if you compare his pictures to what is coming out from under the hand "photographers home" with John Bułhakiem at the helm, it shows a lot and not a subtle difference. This album, released by the Lublin advertising agency Ad Rem, consists of 306 pages (interestingly, the book has no pagination ...), which contains 214 photographs and text describing the geographic regions of the Second Republic, photographed by Poddębski.
publication is delivered carefully, professionally scanned and compiled photographs appear in various shades of sepia matte chalk 150 g/m2. Leszek Dudlik and Waldemar Golec, the authors of the concept album and a selection of photos, write that they reflect the highest achievements of landscape photography , and you gave on this occasion the author's images from the eastern border of Poland II unfortunate as the "photographer" ... While appreciating their work on the creation of this book , one can not but make a few critical remarks. It is a pity that the first publication of an album so phenomenal photographer, which was soaked Poddębski Henry, however, is overly abundant sauce nostalgic-Eastern borderlands. Totally unnecessary! Unnecessarily or photographs were laid in the key geographical (Just a few interesting sequences from Lviv and Vilnius a lot of pictures, one could forgive), and not because of visual appeal, they present themselves.
So imagine a book with photographs of Henry Poddębski printed on the same chalk mat, but in the regular duotonach (preferably with Pantone Warm Gray 8 - and not in the postcard pseudosepii), which indeed are arranged in the order of geographical regions, but the priority their selection is mentioned by me earlier photographic parameter is purely attractive and of course quality. Imagine an album where descriptions of the territories of the Second Republic in less idyllic way of presenting the Polish presence in that land and let the images speak, especially since, as rightly observed by the authors album Poddębski Henry had no ethnic bias, religious or social. He was fascinated by the richness of cultures and traditions, the unique nature of the lives of individuals and entire communities.
Poddębski was an extraordinary documentary, which hardly fits in the suit przyciasnym "Polish photographer Lovers" (though of course the order of this nature performed). It is a pity that while working on the form and content of this book, did not take this into account, because as few of the native operating photographers before 1939, he deserves a real photo album from the event.
